Seven Labor Day Weekend Adventures

Since the school will be closed on Monday, this extended weekend offers you a great chance to explore the city and enjoy some mild weather before autumn sets in. Here are seven inexpensive ideas to get you started.

1. Central Park Picnic
Duck into the Whole Foods at the shops at Columbus Circle for some fresh bread, cheese, and produce, then visit your favourite Central Park landmarks and stop for a picnic.

2. Omlettes and Second-Hand Shopping in Chelsea
Head to the Energy Kitchen in Chelsea for their September Omlette Deal (2 filling omelette and coffee for $3.99) and then explore some Flea Markets.

3. IKEA Trek
Need a few more trendy mirrors, heart-shaped silicone ice trays, and asymettrical bookshelves for your aparment? Take the Water Taxi  from Manhattan to Brooklyn (it's free on weekends!) and shop to your heart's delight.

4.Hummus and Opera
Grab some aestheticly-pleasing hummus and organic mint lemonade at Nanoosh Madison (10% off with your TKC I.D.  Mon-Fri after 2 and Saturday from 11-6! ) and head up to Lincoln Center for their Summer HD Festival! They're showing filmed operas outside each evening at 8 o'clock through Monday, September 6. Get there early for a good seat!

5.Museums and Milkshakes
Head up 5th Avenue to the stretch fondly known as "Museum Mile" and explore one of the eight museums. Afterwards, head to the new Shake Shack location on 84th between Lexington and 3rd Avenue for burgers, fries, milkshakes or one of their famouse concretes!

6. Dinner with Friends
If you're longing for something better than the macaroni and cheese that has been your default dinner for the past week and you're tired of the bustle of Manhattan, check out Miranda restaurant and their Back-to-School special!

7. Baseball in Brooklyn
 Even though Labor Day marks the end of the summer, you can still enjoy one more baseball game. Head out to Brooklyn for a last minute Cyclones game!
